Shelter In a Cart
Homelessness is a complex issue encompassing multiple facets of society. The non-profit design competition organised by DesignBoom is a first step to resolve the situation of the homeless.
Design a cart that can provide shelter and storage. Urban homeless use carts to carry their possessions and to collect goods (like bottles, cardboard, etc.) that they then return to various recyclers in exchange for cash. this provides a small and valuable income.
Design a shelter-cart, just a temporary solution for homeless. While we would dearly love to see affordable housing for all it just seems impossible in these times of economical restraint and government inaction.
It was a team work with Jiang Jing, Zhu Pengcheng, Chen Wenzhe, Zheng Chaoran, Fu Yetao. We designed two options for the homeless.
project 1:
1/4 Trible

The idea originated from China’s red lantern, which symbolize the reunion.
Because 4 unites become a tribe, so the device would allow homeless people spontaneously live in groups in several regular places.
Living in groups can help the urban homeless to communicate easily. The big area living in groups can bring homelessness to society attention. And also help persuade the government promptly to deal with the problem of homelessness. So, we hope goverment should provide the affordable safe and secure housing for everyone.

project 2:
2/3 Cover

One of them, 1/4 tribe, was The Honorable Mention of “Shelter in Cart” design competition by Designboom 2006.
There are 130 works selected out of 4247 participants.
It was my first time to join in an international design competition with my classmates which brought me a lot of happiness.
